Alaia FW 1988 black blazer dress

Museum-held Alaia black blazer-style dress from the Fall Winter 1988 collection. An identical piece is part of The Met’s permanent collection (Accession number: 2020.135), the jumpsuit version was seen on Naomi Campbell and on the runway, and the dress version on Iman.

Details : This piece features a fitted bodice accentuated by seven double-breasted rows of buttons, a notched lapel neckline, a patch pocket and long tailored sleeves. Precision seaming emphasizes the waist, while pockets on both sides create the illusion of a softly pleated skirt. Long front ties hide a total zipper closure, while the silhouette is knee-length.
